Day 1 - European Girls' Team Championship

The European Girls' Team Championship got underway at Forsgardens Golfklubb today.

114 players representing 19 nations teed off on the first of five days of golf in Sweden.

The five best stroke play scores out of six for each team on the first two days will decide the top-eight teams that qualify for Flight A and have a chance at winning medals in the match play stages.

Last year's runners-up, Italy, currently lead the way on seven-over-par. Alessia Nobilio (pictured) shot the team's lowest score of the day, a one-under-par 71.

Spain sit in second place on nine-over-par, while defending champions and hosts, Sweden, are tied for fourth with Germany on 10-over-par.

The Czech Republic occupy fifth place on 12-over par, five shots ahead of the Netherlands in sixth, and six shots ahead of Denmark in seventh.

Ireland sit in the vital eight position, but only hold a narrow lead over England, who are two shots back, and Switzerland and France, who are three shots back.

Sarah Hricikova, Czech Republic, shot the lowest score of the day, a five-under-par 67 that featured eight birdies.

18 holes of stroke play remain on day two to decide the match play flights for the final three days.
