The following describes what data we may collect from you, and how and why we use it:
Creating an Account/ Entering an EGA Championship/ Participating in an EGA Championship
To enter our championships, users must create an account. To create an account, we ask you to provide us with your full name, address, email, gender, mobile phone number, nationality, date of birth, golfing handicap, and relevant National Golf Authority. This data is necessary for us in order to consider your entry into one of our championships. We use it to:
- Contact you fur purposes related to your entry or participation to the championship (e.g. whether you have been successful in entering)
- Assess your eligibility for the relevant championship (e.g. if you meet the age or handicap requirements)
- Produce the starting and reserve lists for the championships. This information (your name, nationality, and handicap) will be used publicly for starting lists, reserve lists, live scoring and results, and may also be further used communications on our Site, social media channels, and newsletter.
We may also collect data about you from publicly available sources for reasons relating to our championships. For example, for entry into the European Amateur Championship or the European Ladies’ Amateur Championship, we must collect your latest World Amateur Golf Ranking, a key factor for your entry into the championship.
Your name, nationality, handicap, and the competitions you have attempted to enter may be shared with your relevant national golf authority in order to verify your exact handicap, or so that they may consider you for an exemption place into a championship.
Other than sharing your name, handicap and nationality with our member federations and organising committees of our championships (which may include the hosting golf clubs), we do not share your personal data with any third parties.
You can see or edit any information you have provided us for the purposes listed above by logging into your account and clicking ‘YOUR ACCOUNT’. We store this data indefinitely, as players regularly enter championships across multiple years, although we will completely delete your account, and any personal data we store about you with it, upon request to email@example.com.
Should you wish to sign up to our newsletter, we ask you to provide us with your name and email address. Once a month, on the last workday of the month, we send a newsletter with the latest information about our events, activities, and member federations. We will only email you our newsletter you if you sign up specifically for this purpose (we will not use your email address disclosed to us anywhere else on our site to send you the newsletter). We will store your name and email address for the purpose of sending you the newsletter only, and will not share your email address with third parties, or email you for other marketing purposes.
Our newsletter software also collects and stores analytics about each email sent. By signing up for our newsletter, you give your consent for these data to be tracked. These include what emails you have opened, the IP address used to access the newsletter, what links you have clicked on, what city you opened each email in, and what time you have opened our newsletter. These data can also be seen by us, for each individual user’s behaviour. This data is strictly confidential, is not shared with any third parties, and is used solely to improve the newsletter. This data is stored as long as an individual remains subscribed to the newsletter emailing list. If you would like this data not to be tracked, would like to see what data is stored for you, or would like us to delete the data we have stored about your activity related to our newsletter please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
You may unsubscribe from the mailing list at any time, either using the ‘unsubscribe’ button found in the footer of any newsletters you have received from us, or by contacting email@example.com. Your email address and name will be stored until you request to be unsubscribed from the list, at which point your name and email address will be deleted from our newsletter database.
General use of our Site
We collect aggregate data about user behaviour on our Site. This means that we cannot identify any single user, but collect and store data about general user behaviour, demographics, and how and from where our Site is accessed. We collect and store this data with the goal of improving our Site and enhancing the user experience.
We would like to make you aware that cookies may be used on this Site. A cookie is a very small text file that is placed on your computer’s hard drive when accessing a Site and it collects standard internet log information and visitor behaviour information. This information is used to track visitor use of the Site and to compile statistical reports on Site activity.
