Three rounds are complete in Finland, and the European Amateur Championship has a new name at the top of the leaderboard. Tim Wiedemeyer of Germany delivered the standout individual performance for the second consecutive day at Linna Golf, posting another 6-under 65. Despite increasing winds in the afternoon, and having to play the 18th in the rain, he remained bogey-free to move to 10 under par for the championship and take a two-shot cushion heading into the final round.
The German has recovered remarkably from an opening round 73 (+2), which had him in a tie for 80th place after the opening 18 holes.
The chasing pack remains dangerous, with nine players less than five shots behind. Aaron Pounds of the United States and Nevill Ruiter of the Netherlands share second place at 8 under, with Pounds firing a 4-under 67 to earn his place alongside Wiedemeyer in Saturday's final pairing. Ruiter held firm with a level-par round to stay within striking distance, and will look to become the first player from the Netherlands to win the championship on Saturday.
Ruiter will go out in the penultimate group with Arthur Carlier of France, who sits in a tie for fourth with South Africa's Jack Buchanan at 7 under. Both men will start one shot clear of Spain's Alejandro de Castro.
Everything is in place for a tense finish on Saturday, with the champion also securing a place in The 154th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.
At the lower end of the leaderboard, the second-cut saw exactly 60 players advance to the final round, with the cutline at +3.
