Smørum Golfklub has captured the 2025 European Men’s Club Trophy, completing a wire-to-wire victory at Cabot Bordeaux in the landmark 50th edition of the tournament.
The opening day of the event was disrupted by Storm Benjamin, whose heavy winds forced the 23 national-champion teams to delay their starts until Thursday afternoon.
Once play finally began, the blustery conditions hardly seemed to faze the Danish champions. Claes Thrane Borregaard, who represented the Continent of Europe in the St Andrews Trophy earlier this year, fired a blistering 64 (-7) featuring eight birdies and an eagle. His round, the lowest of the day by six shots, combined with Mads Heller’s steady 70 (-1) to give Smørum a commanding nine-shot lead after day one.
The momentum continued on Friday, with two more rounds in the 60s stretching Smørum’s advantage to 13 shots heading into the final round.
Despite a spirited comeback from defending champions St-Nom-La-Bretèche and multiple suspensions of play caused by heavy rain, Smørum Golfklub sealed the victory with a total score of -12, earning their second European Men’s Club Trophy title in just three years.
St-Nom-La-Bretèche of France finished runners-up at seven under, while Real Club de Golf de Castiello of Spain completed the podium on five under.
Oscar Couilleau (FRA) claimed the individual honours with a total of -11, carding rounds of 70, 67, and 65.
