Calm conditions at Empordà Golf led to low scoring on Thursday in the final round of stroke play qualifying at the European Mid-Amateur (25+) Team Championships.
In the men’s event, Germany delivered the standout performance to secure a place in the semi-finals. Starting the day at level par, their three counting scores added up to 21-under, lifting them from sixth to second overall. Christopher Dammert carded a 9-under 62, only to be outdone moments later by teammate Cedric Otten, who shot a remarkable 10-under 61 — the lowest round recorded in any EGA event this season.
Despite Germany’s surge, Ireland retained top spot and the number-one seed for match play. A composed display from their four players produced just three bogeys on the day. The Irish will now face hosts and defending champions Spain in Friday’s opening semi-final, while France — last year’s runners-up — take on Germany in the other men’s Flight A match.
Germany also led the way in the women’s championship, finishing at 9-under to claim the top seed. Ireland were close behind on 8-under, with defending champions France six shots further back in third. The battle for the fourth and final semi-final place came down to a single stroke. Italy finished at +5 to edge out Austria on the strength of their non-counting score, while hosts Spain narrowly missed out.
In the women's semi-finals, Italy will meet top-seeded Germany, while Ireland face France.
