The defending champions looked like the team to beat all week. They earned the number-one seed in the stroke play qualifying as the only team with an under-par total, before comfortably defeating Sweden and the Czech Republic in the first two match play rounds.
England, who won the event in 2024, had a similar route to the final, with strong victories over Italy and France.
England drew first blood in the gold medal match with an emphatic 5&4 win in the opening foursomes from Lauren Crump and Annabel Peaford. The crucial second foursomes match went the distance, with sisters Angela and Amanda Revuelta edging out Daisy Lee and Elizabeth Wilson on the 18th to draw the score level.
The five afternoon singles looked tight all afternoon. Carolina Perez-Tasso put a second point on the board for Spain on the 15th green, before both teams added points in quick succession.
With Spain just one point away from the title, Mia Ingham brought the score level with a 3&2 win for England to take the championship down to the very last match.
Adriana Garcia Terol ultimately sealed the deal for Spain with a 2&1 win on the 17th, earning the country a record extending 11th win in the event, and the third in four years.
In the match for third place, France defeated the Czech Republic 4.5 to 2.5 to claim the bronze medals, while hosts Switzerland lost out to Germany on the last day for a 6th place finish.
