Pietro Bovari Leads European Amateur at Halfway Stage

Round 2 of the European Amateur Championship has been completed at Parador El Saler, Spain.

Filippo Celli (ITA) held a three-shot lead after a stunning 64 (-8) in Wednesday's opening round, although he was unable to maintain his advantage on Day 2 with a round of +2.

Day 2 Highlights: 2022 European Amateur Championship

The 74 dropped the Italian from -8 to -6, and opened the door for Celli's compatriot, Pietro Bovari, to take the top spot.

A bogey-free round of 66 (-6) in windy conditions, with birdies on the opening and closing holes, moved Bovari from -1 to -7, and into the solo-lead.

Filippo Celli sits alone in 2nd place, one shot behind.

Jack Ingham will join Celli and Bovari in the final grouping on Friday. The Dutch player carded a three-under-par 69 in Round 2 to move 16 spots up the leaderboard and into third place on -5.

Honk Kong's Taichi Kho is three shots behind Bovari on -4. Kho made five birdies and five bogeys on his way to a round of level-par on Thursday.

Seven players currently sit in a tie for 5th place on three-under-par. The group includes former Jacques Léglise Trophy player, Daniel Rodrigues (POR).

Javier Barcos Garbayo is also just four shots off the lead, having shot a 69 (-3) on Day 2, the lowest score of the 15 Spaniards in the field.

The leadind groups will tee off last in Friday's third round, with a tee time close to 15:30.

36 holes remain to decide who will claim the European title, and with it, a spot in The 150th Open.
