Fägersten Leads in Italy - Round 1 Summary

Ester Fägersten leads the European Ladies’ Amateur Championship after Round 1 in Italy.

 

The Swedish player carded seven birdies on her way to a round of 66 (-6) on the Allianz Course by Trent Jones Sr. at Royal Park Golf & Country Club I Roveri.

 

The 19-year-old leads a strong international field which includes 25 of the world's top-100 amateur players.

 

 

“I was nervous yesterday." Explained Fägersten after her round. "It's a long course and a tough course so I'm just really happy with my game today"

 

"I made some putts in the beginning and then just kept on going."

 

Round 1 Highlights - 2021 European Ladies' Amateur Championship

 

25 out of the 144 players in the field finished under-par after Round 1.

 

Three of those players sit within just two shots of the leading Swede. Sara Kjellker (SWE), Jana Melichova (CZE), and Paula Kirner (GER) all signed for rounds of 68 (-4) on Day 1.

 

 


 

Six more players are currently just three shots back. Defending champion, Paula Schulz-Hanssen (GER), and the top-ranked player in the field, Linn Grant (SWE) both shot rounds of 69 (-3).

 

Alessia Nobilio is the leading hopeful for the Italians, having also shot a three-under-par 69.
