History
The European Ladies' Team Championship, first held in 1959, is one of the oldest tournaments in the European Golf Association's roster and is contested annually by approximately 20 teams. Since its earliest days, the tournament has featured a blend of stroke play and match play formats, and is currently contested across five days of competition.
The women's team event was the first European-titled amateur championship organised by the EGA, alongside the European Amateur Team Championship more than 65 years ago. Six nations contested the first edition, which was won by France in Cologne, Germany.
The tournament was originally contested every second year up until 2008, when it moved to an annual frequency.
The event has seen many of Europe's biggest stars represent their countries before turning pro, including:
- Annika Sörenstam (SWE)
- Suzann Pettersen (NOR)
- Anna Nordqvist (SWE)
- Caroline Hedwall (SWE)
- Céline Boutier (FRA)
- Sophia Popov (GER)
- Carlota Ciganda (ESP)
- Charley Hull (ENG)
- Linn Grant (SWE)
- Maja Stark (SWE)
- Bronte Law (ENG)
- Anne Van Dam (NED)
