Five players are tied for the lead of the European Ladies' Amateur Championship at the end of round 1. All battled through wet and windy conditions at Allerum Golf on Wednesday to sign 3-under rounds of 69 to lead an elite field of 144 players.
First to reach the mark in tricky scoring conditions was Charlotte Naughton of England. She was then joined by Alvilda Julia Wiberg of Denmark and Matilda Björkman of Sweden. Also reaching three under par was Rosanne Boere of the Netherlands, who erased a double bogey on 17 with an eagle on 18. Last to finish her round at three under was Audrey Lam of Belgium, who edged her playing partner Ebba Lundqvist by one stroke.
Lundqvist shares sixth place with her Swedish compatriot Alicia Olsson, who carded 17 pars before an eagle three on the last hole. Also making the most of the final par 5 was Sofia Maier-Borst of Germany, who chipped in for eagle to finish at two under. She sits alongside her playing partner Havanna Torstensson and Hannah Lee-McNamara of Ireland.
A total of 19 players broke par in the opening round, with 30 players within three shots of the lead at level-par or better.
With a tightly packed leaderboard and 54 holes left to play, many players remain in contention, including 2022 champion, Savannah De Bock of Belgium.
