Day one in the Netherlands and after a morning downpour, the skies cleared ready for the opening foursomes matches.

With the first three matches going to the eighteenth hole - the first point of the day came from the final foursomes match and went the way of the Continent of Europe.

Marie Eline Madsen and Emma Dalgaard Bunch sealed a five and three win over Donegan and Beth Coulter.

Great Britain & Ireland were quickly level as world amateur number one Lottie Woad and her partner Nellie Ong edged past Paula Martin Sampedro and Cayetana Garcia Poggio.

The other two matches were halved - with Europe coming from behind in both - to leave the scores tied going into the afternoon.

The afternoon singles started well for the visiting side as Patience Rhodes and Isla Mcdonald-O’Brien won their matches while Woad secured a half against Eline Madsen.

It was all Europe from that point though as they took four and half of the final five points to lead 7-5 going into day two.

In the Junior trophy Great Britain & Ireland had the early advantage as the pairs of Annabel Peaford and Ellie Lichtenhein and Carly Mcdonald with Alicia Kelly picking up wins. While Alice Don and Angela Revuelta claimed a point for Europe.

In the afternoon singles it was the home side who dominated, taking four of the six match ups and could have had more as both of their losses came on the 18th hole.

Europe will take a narrow 5-4 lead into Saturday.
