Spain Crowned European Girls' Team Champions

12 Jul 2025

Spain were crowned European Girls’ Team champions at Slaley Hall after a dominant final-day win over runners-up Italy.

The morning foursomes saw each team win one apiece, before Spain took the ascendancy with a convincing 6&5 win for Nagore Martinez against Guia Vittoria Acutis.

Despite Gemma Simeoni getting a point back for Italy, Liz Siyu Hao won 4&3 against Georgia Scortichini, before Adriana Garcia beat Giulietta Bertero 2&1 to seal the title, and although Lucia Iraola was looking set for another victory, the teams shook hands as Spain secured yet another girls’ gold medal, after last winning in 2023.

It was the 10th time Spain have won the championship – the most successful nation since the event began in 1991.

The race for the bronze medal was a fantastic contest between Germany and Ireland, which needed extra holes in the final match to determine a winner.

Germany won two tense foursomes matches in the morning, before Maya Burmann looked to have all but sealed them 3rd place. However, Zoe McLean-Tattan raced to a 7&6 win, before Olivia Costello and Rosin Scanlon both enjoyed 2&1 wins to level proceedings.

Hannah Lee McNamara and Sophie Bingel couldn’t be separated after 18 holes, but on the extra holes with both teams cheering their friends on, it was Ireland who prevailed for 3rd place, as McNamara made par after Bingel couldn’t get up-and-down after a long approach.
