Royal Bled Golf Club and the Slovenian Golf Association have been confirmed as hosts of the 2027 European Amateur Team Championship.

The prestigious event will take place on the club’s acclaimed King’s Course in July 2027, marking the first time the championship will be staged in Slovenia, in what will be its 43rd edition.

A Prestigious Championship

The European Amateur Team Championship has a storied history dating back to its inauguration in 1959. Contested annually, the tournament features the 16 leading men’s amateur teams in Europe, each consisting of six players. The competition begins with two rounds of stroke play, followed by match play to determine the final standings and the champion team.

Over the years, the event has seen many of Europe’s top players represent their countries before moving on to successful professional careers, including Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Ludvig Åberg, Shane Lowry and Tommy Fleetwood among many others.

A Historic and Proven Venue

Founded in 1937, the same year as the European Golf Association, Royal Bled is the oldest golf club in Slovenia and one of the most historic venues in the region. Originally designed by Rudolf von Gelmini, the course was developed under the patronage of the Yugoslav royal family, giving the venue its distinctive heritage.

The club has previously hosted a number of EGA events, including the European Ladies’ Team Championship in 2008, the European Boys’ Team Championship in 2009, and more recently the European Senior Championships in 2018.

Following its revival in the 1970s, the course was redesigned by renowned architect Donald Harradine. More recently, a comprehensive renovation led by Howard Swan saw the King’s Course reopen in 2017, extended to championship length and upgraded to modern standards.

The King’s Course is known for its strategic design, immaculate conditioning and timeless parkland character. Tree-lined fairways, well-protected greens, and subtle elevation changes demand precision and thoughtful course management, offering a balanced test for elite amateur players.

Located close to Lake Bled and approximately 50 km from the capital Ljubljana, the course combines championship quality with a striking natural setting, making it a fitting stage for Europe’s top teams.

The 2026 edition of the championship will take place at Estonian Golf & Country Club, before the event heads to Royal Bled in 2027.
