Rojas & Wehle Lead European Mid-Amateur Championships

Steven Rojas lead the European Mid-Amateur Men's Championship in Spain.

The Swiss player made five birdies on his way to a four-under-par 68 at Pula Golf Resort to take an early two-stroke lead.

94 men and 50 women are competing for two separate titles on the island of Mallorca from Thursday to Saturday this week. The championships, competed over 54 holes, are being played for the first time this year with the newly reduced minimum age limit of 25.

Marcel Zillekens (GER) currently holds second position after carding a round of 70 (-2) which featured four birdies and an eagle. One shot further back on -1 are England's Thomas Burley and Spain's Oscar Sanchez Jubindo.

Defending champion, Rodrigo Lacerda Soares (SUI) finds himself 10 shots behind the leader with 36 holes to play. Two double-bogeys on the card contributed to a round of 78 (+6) for the Swiss player.

In the ladies championship, played on the same course, two German players lead the field.

Deborah Wehle holds a two-stroke advantage after a round of 74 (+2), while Maria Anetseder is in second position having returned a 76 (+4).

Five players are tied on +5 including Belgium's Celine Manche and former Junior Vagliano Trophy captain, Ane Urchegui García.

Players will compete to make the cut on Friday. The top 54 men and 33 ladies (+ ties) will qualify for Saturday's final round.
