Rojas & Anetseder Win European Mid-Amateur Championships

Steven Rojas has won the European Mid-Amateur Men's Championship at Pula Golf Resort in Spain.

After opening with a 68 (-4) to take the early lead on Thursday, the Swiss player struggled in round two to drop to 4th position on +1. The final round was tightly contest, with the lead changing several times in the tricky conditions. Rojas'  holed a long putt on the 18th green for birdie to card a 73 (+1). The putt would turn out to be the winning shot, sealing a one-stroke victory for the Swiss.

The win also earns the Swiss player a spot in the European Amateur Championship at Golf du Médoc Resort later this month.

Finland's Joonas Hinkkanen and German player, Stefan Wiedergrün, who both played with Rojas in the final round, finished in a tie for 2nd on a total of +3. Hinkkanen claimed the silver medal with a lower third round score.

Oscar Sanchez Jubindo was the top performing Spanish player, finishing in fourth place just two shots behind Rojas on +4. The Spaniard narrowly missed out on a medal but didn't walk away empty-handed. For the first time this year, a prize for the top player aged 40+ was awarded, which Jubindo claimed with his fourth place finish.

Defending champion, Rodrigo Lacerda Soares (SUI), climbed 12 positions in the final round with a 74 (+2) to finish in a tie for 18th.

Maria Anetseder has won the European Mid-Amateur Ladies' Championship.

The German player entered the final round with a three-shot deficit to compatriot, Deborah Wehle, who led following rounds one and two. A 77 (+5) in windy conditions at Pula Golf Resort earned Anetseder a spot in an all-German playoff with Wehle after both players finished on +13.

Anetseder would win the playoff on the first hole to become just the second player to win the championship.

The leader after the first two rounds, Deborah Wehle, would take the silver medal, while Belgium's Céline Manche was awarded the bronze with a total of +16.

France's Hélène Malvy, who finished in a tie for fourth with Finland's Milla Hallanoro, claimed the 40+ prize in the ladies' championship.

The 2022 event will be played at Golf du Médoc Resort, France, which is due to host the European Amateur Championship at the end of the month.
