The 2025 European Senior Championships got off to a warm start in Turkey on Thursday morning.
141 of the continent's best 50-and-over amateur players have gathered at Cornelia Golf Club for the 30th edition of the European Senior Men's and Ladies' contests.
ROUND 1
The first of three rounds of stroke play got underway in sunny Belek. The great weather and warm temperature helped 9 players shooting red numbers on Day 1.
Michael Ryden (SWE) and John Kemp (ENG) lead the men's competition after returning three-under-par rounds of 69. With five and six birdies respectively, both players have set the target early for the rest of the field.
Seven other men carded under-par rounds on Thursday at Cornelia. Among them is Ireland’s Edward Mc Cormack, the 2024 Champion, who shot a first round of 71 (-1). The 2024 runner-up of the championship, Ireland’s Joe Lyons, also enjoyed the great Turkish weather and signed a card of 70 (-2).
In the women's championship, contested by 48 players, no players were able to shoot under-par rounds, despite the great Turkish weather. The best round of the day goes to Hélène Malvy (FRA), who signed a scorecard of 73 (+1). The defending champion, Annick Riff (BEL) will have to make a charge on “Moving Day”, after opening her tournament with a 79 (+7).
Same sunny and warm weather is the forecast for Friday's second round, which will see players try to position themselves closer to the leaders, or try and get inside the T54 and T33 cut lines for men and women respectively.
