Continent of Europe win Junior Vagliano Trophy

The Continent of Europe has won the 2021 Junior Vagliano Trophy at Hilversumsche Golf Club in the Netherlands.

 

Starting the day with a four-point advantage, just three points were needed from Saturday's nine matches to claim victory.

 

Swedish pair, Meja Örtengren and Nora Sundberg claimed their second big victory of the event in match number one, taking just 12 holes to defeat Maggie Whitehead and Grace Crawford.

Helen Briem and Constance Fouillet won their match 4&2, bringing the Continent of Europe within just one point of victory. 

 

Shortly afterward, Cayetana Fernandez Garcia-Poggio made a putt to win the hole, the match, and the Junior Vagliano Trophy for the Continent of Europe alongisde her partner, Francesca Fiorellini.

The win marks a sixth straight victory for the Continent of Europe in the contest.

 

With the pressure off in the afternoon, the home team continued to put points on the board in the singles matches.

 

In the first match of the afternoon, Grace Crawford secured GB&I's only win of the day with a 5&3 win against Cayetana Fernandez Garcia-Poggio.

 

Meja Örtengren, Nora Sundberg and Francesca Fiorellini claimed the next three matches for the winning side. The three players completed the week with perfect records, all scoring four points out of their four matches.

 

Constance Fouillet and Ellen Yates halved their match, while Helen Briem added a final point for the Continent of Europe in the last game of the day.

 

The score totalled 14 - 4 in favour of the continental side.
