Selection Process Confirmed for 2022 Continent of Europe Teams

The EGA is pleased to announce the selection process for the 2022 Continent of Europe and European teams.

A total of 24 of Europe's most talented players will be selected to represent the Continent of Europe this year against Great Britain & Ireland in three different matches. Selection for a Continental team is a rare achievement which recognises outsanding performances in elite amateur events.

St Andrews Trophy

The first of these three matches, the St Andrews Trophy will take place on 21 and 22 July at Penati Golf Resort in Slovakia. Nine male amateur players will be selected for the match by captain, Yves Hofstetter with help from the EGA Selection Committee. The players will be chosen based on European Amateur Golf Ranking position and performance in elite events over the past year.

The team will be finalised in the week following the European Amateur Championship, due to take place from 22 to 25 June at Parador El Saler.

Jacques Léglise and Junior Vagliano Trophies

The two further international matches featuring teams selected by the EGA, the Jacques Léglise and Junior Vagliano Trophies, will be played in conjunction for the first time this year. Both matches will be played over 26 and 27 August at Blairgowrie Golf Club in Scotland.

Nine boys (U18) will be selected for the Continent of Europe Jacques Léglise Trophy team by captain, Joachim Fourquet, in the week following the European Team Championships. One selection will be left open until after The Boys' Amateur Championship to be played in early August.

Six girls (U16) will be selected for the Continent of Europe Junior Vagliano Trophy team by captain, Myrte Eikenaar following the European Young Masters due to be played from 21 to 23 July.

Players will again be selected based on performance in elite international events, as well as their European Amateur Ranking, with help from the EGA Selection Committee.

The Continent of Europe will be defending their trophies in each of the three international matches this year, having won the Jacques Léglise and Junior Vagliano Trophies in 2021, and the St Andrews Trophy when it was last played in 2018.

A number of Ryder Cup players have previously represented the Continent of Europe against Great Britain & Ireland including Viktor Hovland, Edoardo and Francesco Molinari, Sergio Garcia, and Henrik Stenson. Recent Ladies’ European Tour winners, Lucie Malchirand and Pia Babnik, both also represented the Continent of Europe in the Junior Vagliano Trophy.
