Selection criteria confirmed for Ryder Cup Junior Match

 

The 2014 Junior Ryder Cup will take place from September 22 – 23 2014 at Blairgowrie Golf Club, Scotland.

The Ryder Cup Junior Match is a biennial contest between Europe and America, and the teams consist of boys and girls under the age of 18. The USA retained the trophy in 2012, winning 14½-9½ at Olympia Fields in Chicago.

The event is an international showcase of golf’s next generation, and is designed to continue to build international friendships between top junior golfers in the United States and Europe. Notable past players include Rory McIlroy, Matteo Manassero, Carly Booth, Suzann Pettersen and Hunter Mahan.

Selection criteria 
The European Junior Ryder Cup team will be made up of six boys and six girls. Automatic qualification will be given to the winning boy and girl of the 2014 European Young Masters. One boy and one girl who are under 16 on 1 January, 2014, will be picked by the selection committee. Four boys and four girls who are under 18 on 1 January, 2014, will be picked by the selection committee. The selection committee will pay attention to results in European Girls Championship, European Boys Championship, European Young Masters, World Amateur Ranking and performance in other significant Junior and amateur events during 2014. The selection committee is made up of Stuart Wilson, European Junior Ryder Cup Team Captain, Kristin Gunhildur, Assistant Captain, and is backed up by representatives from the European Golf Association and Ryder Cup Europe LLP.
