EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

EIKENAAR AND LACERDA SOARES RESPECTIVELY WIN THE EUROPEAN MID-AMATEUR LADIES' & MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIPS

The European Mid-Amateur Men's & Ladies' Championships were a great success with 144 players competing.
The weather conditions were exceptional at Golf Club du Domaine Impérial in Switzerland.

After the first day Richard Heath (AUS), who carded a 66 in the Men's competition, and Camille Piquer (FRA), Yada Alliot (FRA), Nina Birken (GER) and Katharina Brackschulze (GER) in the Ladies' equivalent were in the lead.

In the second round, Rodrigo Lacerda Soares (SUI) carded a 67 (-5) and took a three-shot lead into the final day. In the Ladies’ competition, Katharina Brackschulze (GER) led after day 2.

The atmosphere was tense on the final day for the Ladies’ event as it finished with a four-way play-off. At the fourth extra hole Myrte Eikenaar (NED) managed to retain the title she won the year before in Finland followed by Nina Birken (GER) and Hélène Malvy (FRA).

In the Men’s competition Rodrigo Lacerda Soares (SUI) secured the gold after having a two shot lead on the 18th. Stephan Gross (GER) took second place followed by last year’s winner Richard Heath (AUS) taking the bronze.
