Top-seeds, Spain, comfortably secured a spot in the semi-finals of the European Boys' Team Championship, Jean-Louis Dupont Trophy, following the first day of match play at Golf Resort Kaskada, Czech Republic.
Last year's runners-up defeated the hosts, Czech Republic, 5.5-1.5, after winning the first four matches of the day.
The other three medal-contention matches were extremely close.
The defending champions, Denmark, came up short against Germany, 4-3. Switzerland defeated England 4-3, and Sweden triumphed by the same score against Ireland, after the final match came down to the 18th hole.
Spain will face Germany, and Switzerland will play Sweden in the semi-finals on the second day of match play.
In the other half of the championship, Italy, Belgium, Wales and Scotland lost their Flight B matches, and will battle for one spot to prevent relegation to the Division 2 event.
