European Open Championship

Paula Schulz-Hanßen wins the European Ladies' Amateur Championship

Paula Schulz-Hanßen from Germany wins the European Amateur Ladies’ Championship at CUBO Golf in Slovenia. She defeated Chloé Salort (FRA) in a three hole play-off.

After being part of the team who finished runner-up in the European Ladies’ Team Championship and that won the European Girls' Team Championship, the 17-year-old has now crowned her season with this prestigious individual title. Third place went to 2017 Champion Agathe Laisne from France, who finished one shot behind the two leaders with 272 (-12).

The new European champion was completely overwhelmed after her victory. "I cannot believe it. Two-time European Champion. All I can say is that this victory means the world to me. To be able to experience the whole thing with these people around me is just perfect. I am more than proud and incredibly grateful for what I was able to experience here.” said Paula Schulz-Hanßen after the awards ceremony.

The German Junior Team member, who delivered four strong rounds with 66, 66, 70 and 69, had a one stroke lead after her fifth birdie of the day on the 16th hole. However, Schulz-Hanßen conceded her first double bogey of the championship on the last hole.  Chloé Salort’s bogey on the tough 18th hole meant that both players finished at 271 strokes (-13) after the 72 holes, providing an exciting battle for the title in a three-hole play-off. Schulz-Hanssen recomposed very quickly after her disappointing finish and took a one shot lead on the first hole with a birdie. The second hole was tied with pars and Chloé added another par on the last hole while Paula Schulz-Hanßen secured the title with another birdie.

Next year the event will take place at Alwoodley Golf Club in England on 21-24 July.
