European Amateur Championship

Matthias Schmid retains the lead after the second round

Day 2 of the European Amateur Championship at Golf and Country Club Zürich commenced again in calm conditions.

However, the players found the course set-up a little more difficult than on the first day, with the four overnight leaders not advancing any further versus par. Only Matthias Schmid (GER) held position at -5 following a round that included four birdies and four bogeys. Two of Schmid’s fellow-countrymen, including overnight co-leader, Frederik Schott, and Nick Bachem, and are one further back with Finnish player, Rasmus Karlsson. Both Bachem and Karlsson made the low round of the day, 68 (-3), with Timo Vahlenkamp (GER) who is one stroke further back.

Two of the other overnight co-leaders, Gregorio De Leo (ITA) and Casper Simberg (FIN) also sit on -3 joined by Frenchmen Tom Gueant and David Ravetto, and Filip Raza (CZE).

13 further players finished Round 2 under par going into the third round, which may pose more challenging weather conditions.
