EUROPEAN LADIES' TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

FOUR TITLE CONTENDERS REMAIN AT THE EUROPEAN LADIES’ TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP IN SWEDEN

Switzerland continued to set the pace in today's Flight A quarterfinals of the European Ladies' Amateur Team Championship, Upsala Golf Club, Sweden, with a straight 3-0 win over 8th seeds, Iceland. The first two matches could have gone to either team, but the top seeds were able to hang-on to their one hole advantage at the 18th in both.

Italy's bid came to an end when, at one match each against the home team and defending champions, they could not overcome the one hole advantage held by Sweden on the 17th in the final match.

Denmark had a convincing win over Spain, while the Germany/France match went to the last putt on the final hole. With the first-turned-final singles match held to advantage on the 18th by Germany's Paula Schulz-Hanssen, both she and Lucie Malchirand found the final green in regulation. As Schulz-Hanssen's 20-footer slipped by, Malchirand's 8-footer would see the match continue into extra holes. It was not to be.

The Netherlands leads the Flight B round robin competition with a 3-0 defeat of Belgium. The Czech Republic is a close second on games, with a 2.5-0-5 win over Slovakia.

The match play continues for the medal placings tomorrow with Switzerland meeting Sweden and Denmark against Germany.
