De Bock Leads European Ladies' Amateur at Halfway Stage

Moving day came early at Tegelberga Golfklubb. Round 2 of the European Ladies’ Amateur Championship saw many changes at the top of the leaderboard. The stage is set for a thrilling finish, with the defending champion as the leader, and the world’s best amateur player trailing by one.

Thursday turned out to be a brilliant day for Belgium’s Savannah de Bock. Not only did she produce the first bogey-free round of the tournament, but she carded no less than six birdies, including one on the final hole.

2023 European Ladies' Amateur Championship: Round 2 Highlights

The 2022 champion’s hopes of back-to-back wins are still very much alive, as she holds the solo lead at -5.

Her closest opponent at the begginning of round three will also be the home crowd’s favorite. Sweden’s Ingrid Lindblad, the 2021 champion, got off to a hot start on Thursday afternoon, after holing-out for eagle on the par-5 11th.

With two birdies, but a double bogey on the 5th, she shot a 2-under 69 for the second round in a row. She sits alone in second place, after spending most of the afternoon at the top.

Behind the two leaders, several players remain very much in contention with 36 holes left to play. Germany’s Helen Briem shot a 1-under 70, and only trails de Bock by two shots. She shares third place at -3 with Round 1 leader, Spain’s Carla Tejedo. Golf Ireland’s Beth Coulter completes the top 5, with back to back scores under par, and a total of -2.

Tough playing conditions will once more await the players on round 3 of the Championship. Many of them still stand a good chance to earn a spot in the AIG Women’s Open.
