DAY 1 SUMMARY - EUROPEAN TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS DIVISION 2

EUROPEAN AMATEUR & BOYS’ TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS, DIVISION 2

Borsa Golf Club, Slovakia.

The stroke play qualifying rounds are underway here at Borsa Golf Club in Slovakia for the men’s and boy’s Division 2 team championships, and round one provided a lot of low scores.

In the Men’s event, Fabian Lang (AUT), Joao Teixeira E Costa (POR) and Connor Graham (SCO) share the lead with rounds of 65 (-7) on Day 1. After an even-par front-nine, Fabian Lang played the back nine in only 29 shots to grab his share of the lead, thanks to an eagle on the par-5 18th.

Out of the 54 scores total, 37 of them are at even par or better. Impressive scoring for Division 2 on a tricky golf course.

Scotland is the team to beat after the first round at -22, followed by Portugal at -16 and Czech Republic at -15.

On the Boys side, under par scores have also been common, but the overall lead after round one goes to Mathias Weiss (AUT), who carded a bogey-free round of 65 (-7). He is followed by his fellow teammate Maximilian Puregger at -6, and Stefan Rojas (LUX) in third place at -5.

Austria is the outright leader after round one with a total score of -22. Scotland is second at -6 total, while Iceland took the third place at -2 total.

Five of the best ten scores of the day were recorded by Austrian players.

With one round of stroke play qualifying left, teams will need to secure spots in the top-four to have a chance of earning medals and one of three promotion spots for next year's Division 1 events.
