EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Belgium in pole position for tight race in Sweden.

Another sunny day at Hooks Golf Club in Sweden and another Belgian player is leading the race for the European Ladies’ Amateur title as Leslie Cloots posts a score of 67 during Friday’s round.

With a total of 204 (-12) Cloots is three strokes ahead of Sweden’s Lisa Pettersson. Cloots has recorded very consistent under par scores of 68, 69 and 67 throughout the week.

”I feel comfortable being in a leading position. I came here to win, I’ve had a good week so far and I’m really looking forward to tomorrow’s grand final”, said the Belgian.

Pettersson posted the lowest score of the day, a 65, seven-under-par.

”This is the best round in my career so far. I came to Hooks with a 69 as my personal best. Everything worked today. I started off with three birdies in a row and then they just kept coming – especially after the turn, from hole 12 onwards. I played my irons very well and did some great putting as well”, said the 20-year-old after signing her scorecard.

After two calm days, the wind picked up during the third round, challenging the players playing alongside Lake Hookasjön. However, this seems to not have bothered the Swede at all.

”It was all about the right club selection, one more or less, no big deal. I tried to relax and take a steady aim at the flag. I’m proud of myself, that I’m able to perform at this level. It feels great to be in the final group tomorrow!”

In third place, with a total of -8, is Diane Baillieux from Belgium who lost her two-day lead during Friday’s round to her compatriot Cloots. Certainly there are more than these three players contending for the trophy tomorrow, as seven followers sit in tied fourth place ready to go low. Two course records on day one and two have shown that very low scores are possible on this championship course. In total 62 players made the cut and will start from Tee 1 from 7.40 to 11.00h. An exciting day ahead in Sweden!

Watch it on CMore Golf TV and Play (Sweden) from 12.00h on and follow the final groups on their back nine. It will also be streamed live on the EGA website here.
